The Detroit News interviewed Karen Gutman of JVS about how to meet the challenges of today’s job search.

Keeping yourself positive and upbeat is the main challenge, especially if you haven’t looked for a job in many years, she says. And, it’s about networking now. She said:

“We know that 80 percent of jobs, and probably more, are never posted. Instead, they’re filled by word of mouth.

“The days of sending out resumes as a result of the Sunday classified ads are gone.

“Job-hunting is much more interactive, and it’s hard for a lot of people to be that interactive. Social networking is a big part of it, but I like to let people know that you use the social network to build your network. It’s direct networking that helps you build those contacts that will lead to your next job.”
