One-Eyed Betty’s

If what you desire is a seemingly unending selection of local and craft beer, One-Eyed Betty’s in fabulous Ferndale is a sure thing.

When entering Betty’s, you’re greeted by a row of colorful pinball machines and a jukebox with a savvy selection of tunes. Sit at the bar or at one of the many tables or booths in the expansive dining area.

Betty’s is carving out a nice little niche for itself, boasting 47 beers on tap — one of which is a root beer — and more than 100 bottled beers. Many of its great selection of brews come from Michigan including Bell’s, Jolly Pumpkin, Arcadia and Founders to name a few. Find Mead from B. Nektar Meadery, also located in Ferndale, and a nice selection of whiskey and tequila. The tequila is listed under the category of “Mexican Whiskey.”

Let’s not forget the food. Betty’s features some seriously good eats. The menu is only one page, but there are a variety of delectable dishes that will set off your taste sensors. Appetizers range in price from $6 -$16 and include a vibrant bruschetta, carnival pretzels with three dipping sauces, scotch eggs and a couple of different oyster dishes.

Next up are the soups, salads and handwiches — yes, handwiches — you read that correctly. Prices range from $5 to $10. They have a great beer cheese soup, along with spicy gumbo, a grapefruit and avocado salad that, according to server Ryan, makes him smile.

Handwiches include the Betty Burger, a po’ boy with your choice of fried oysters or shrimp, a portabello sandwich that has a nice bit of heat to it, a “Ridiculously Good Grilled Cheese” and much more.

Dinner selections are $10-$16 and include a hot N’awlins barbecue shrimp plate, fish and chips, steak frites, fried seafood platter and more. For dessert, try the hand-pulled root beer float with Treat Dreams butter beer ice cream. It’s heavenly.

At One-Eyed Betty’s, there’s a beer for every taste, great food, pinball and a fun atmosphere. Betty’s also features live music. Past performers include Amy Gore & Her Valentines, Delilah DeWylde and the Lost Boys, Dutch Pink and Robin Horlock.
