Music is a language that transcends all boundaries, and the discovery of new music is an auditory present for your ears. Here are a number of new releases by artists that you may or may not have heard of that we really enjoyed.

1. Blackbird Blackbird – Boracay Planet

Boracay Planet is a smooth melodic album that ebbs and flows into soothing vocals with a slightly psychedelic sound that is steeped in experimental beats, surf rock echoes, folk and dreamy electronica. One might say that it’s music to dream by. Mikey Maramag is the musical creative mind that is Blackbird Blackbird.

2. Donald Fagen – Sunken Condos

Donald Fagen has been creating jazzy pop that is filled with soul since the early 1970s. His newest release, Sunken Condos, is swirled in toe-tapping beats and catchy lyrics. It’s a cool breath of fresh air. If you tend to lean toward music heavily steeped in jazz and soul, then this is an album for you to kick back and enjoy.

3. Muse – The 2nd Law

Muse’s new album, The 2nd Law, is an explosion of sound that is a wild ride for the senses, with all the bells and whistles that we’ve come to expect from Muse. This is in my top-five favorite albums of 2012; it’s a beautiful composite of rock, soaked in melodic beats, with a creative panache that emanates throughout the whole record.

4. The Burning of Rome – With Us

The Burning of Rome creates music that is spacey and eclectic. Their new release, With Us, travels through different atmospheres of expressive sound. It is a beautifully crafted work of art that appeals to a wide demographic of music aficionados, with enough spunk and fun to keep you tuned in for the complete expression of the album.

5. The Soft Pack – Strapped

The Soft Pack’s new album, Strapped, is a happy-go-lucky stroll through mellow pop-punk. It’s an easygoing album with a bit of punch and kick, plus head nodding beats that add to its charming appeal.
