Torino Espresso + Bar is serving up specialty cocktails, sumptuous small plates of tempting cuisine and a mean cup of espresso for that extra caffeinated kick. They also carry a nice selection of beer and wine. Along with dazzling customers with these simple pleasures, they also are aiming to be environmentally conscious by sourcing as much of their food locally as possible.

Torino Espresso + Bar is located in Ferndale on the corner of East Nine Mile and Bermuda, about one block from Woodward Avenue. It is open Tuesday-Thursday from 5 p.m.-midnight and Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m.-1:30 a.m.

It’s a great place to wind down after work or maybe to wind up with some espresso. It has a cute patio that is a sweet spot for summertime and warm-weather days, although you’ll probably have to wait till next year to enjoy the outdoor experience. The crowd that frequents Torino ranges from businessmen and hipsters to groups of guys and girls going out for cocktails. The age range tends to be people in their 20s-40s.

Torino features specialty cocktails, such as a fall-influenced cocktail called the Pumpkin King, made with Dewar’s Scotch Whiskey, pumpkin liqueur, ginger beer, lime and bitters. If you’re looking for something a bit cooler and more refreshing, I recommend the Cucumber Martini made with gin, St. Germain, lime and cucumber juice; it’s delicious! Torino also makes a great Espresso Martini, White Russian and Old Fashioned amidst a number of other wonderful elixirs.

Torino offers small plates, such as a delectable hummus plate, a vibrant and fresh bruschetta and an olive tapenade plate. It makes paninis to order with your choice of meat and cheese. Meat selections include prosciutto di parma, speck, coppa, salami and chorizo. Cheese options are brie, manchego, cotswold, cheddar and parmigiano reggiano. There is also a veggie option. Torino makes a fantastic variety of seasonal soups sure to warm you up with an explosion of flavor; past soups include tomato basil and French onion, to name a few.

If you’re looking to relax with a few cocktails, have a night out with friends or enjoy a nice cup of coffee, look no further than Torino.
