Hagopian Cleaning Services recently hosted the 10th Annual Rug Summit, drawing more than 150 participants from across the nation to its Oak Park cleaning facility. The Summit, started by Tom Monahan of Centrum Force with his partner, Greg Turcotte, was designed to share insights into operating a successful rug care business and has grown into a much anticipated annual event.

The Summit began with opening remarks and a guided tour of Hagopian’s state-of-the-art Oak Park cleaning plant led by third generation owner, Edmond Hagopian. Hagopian shared with participants the importance of keeping up with new technology that can improve the cleaning business. This can be done through trade shows, trade journals and attending seminars such as The Summit, he said.

Seminars offered on site at Hagopian included strip washing and over dye tea wash; dye bleeding; de-mystifying spot dyeing and color stripping; color correction techniques; how to use video, Facebook and Live Chat to generate new customers; EmployeePrenur Philosophy and a panel discussion on new trends in fabrics and flooring and the challenges in cleaning them.

In addition to the seminars, symposium guests were invited by Hagopian to their beautiful Novi “World of Rugs” showroom for dinner and a chance to network with other people in the industry. Using tables draped in their signature color purple and casual seating groups, the showroom was transformed into a glittering and welcoming hub of camaraderie.

Dinner was a neverending feast of Armenian delicacies, an array of spectacular mini desserts, and an open bar featuring Michigan beer and wine. Adding to the ambiance, music provided by Larry Mitchell, Grammy Award-winning guitarist and Evan Garr, jazz violinist, delighted attendees throughout the evening.

On Friday, the symposium wrapped up with a discussion of educational options that currently exist in the industry and ending with concluding remarks by Tom Monahan.

The Hagopian Family of Companies is a family-owned, third-generation Michigan business, that includes Hagopian & Sons Inc., Hagopian World of Rugs with showrooms in Birmingham, Novi and Oak Park, Hagopian Cleaning Services Inc., with five cleaning drop off depots, as well as a store in the Michigan Design Center, The Ghiordes Knot.
