The Southfield Bridge Connection surpassed its goal of raising $6,000 this year by raising $10,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association on June 21.
This is the second year the Connection participated in this event sponsored by the national organization, the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), whose goal is to raise $750,000 for Alzheimer’s research from bridge cubs across the country and Canada. At the Bridge Connection, more than 51 tables played, compared to 42 tables last year.
Locally, money was raised from bids for 22 premier bridge players at the Connection who volunteered to be partners to the highest bidder. In addition, funds were raised with a raffle for gift certificates and prizes from local businesses. A silent auction of older and out-of-print bridge books also took place.
Leading the efforts for the 2017 event are Connection owners Grant Petersen and Mike McDonald, with volunteer committee members Ron Horwitz and Marilyn Nathanson, both of Farmington Hills.
