Head to Tapper’s new store for the best selection of Michigan-made beer — and diamonds, too
Tapper’s Diamonds & Fine Jewelry took the wraps off its newest store at the Somerset Collection in Troy Oct. 21. What makes it stand out from all others? A Bridal Bar offering the largest selection of engagement rings in Metro Detroit (which will be celebrated at a Wedding Weekend event Nov. 10-12) — plus a bar serving Michigan-brewed beer. The 5,600-square-foot location, on the second level of the mall’s north side, is also connected to Michigan’s first and only Rolex shop, operated by Tapper’s.
“The new Rolex shop is a tribute to the timelessness and perfection of the leading Swiss watch brand, operated with [our] commitment to superior customer service,” says Mark Tapper, the jewelry store’s president.
Founded in 1977, Tapper’s has been offering fashion and fine jewelry, loose diamonds, engagement rings and luxury timepieces for four decades. The family-owned retailer is Michigan’s largest direct diamond importer, employing more than 80 associates at Somerset and its two other locations: Orchard Mall in West Bloomfield and Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi. Several members of the Tapper family help run the business.
“Over our 40-year history, trends and styles have changed, but one thing has remained the same — our tradition of treating every visitor like family,” Tapper says. “With this new location, we’ll be able to provide a more personalized and engaging shopping experience than ever before.”
The cutting-edge space was built by Detroit-based Sachse Construction with architectural and design work by JGA of Southfield. The centerpiece of the new Tapper’s store is a U-shaped Bridal Bar featuring a wide variety of engagement rings in all shapes and sizes from designers including A. Jaffe, Carizza, Henri Daussi, Martin Flyer and more.
The experiential store also includes the Tapper’s Taproom, a refreshment bar and gathering space with draft beer from Michigan-owned breweries, root beer from Williamsburg-based Northwoods Soda & Syrup Co., soft drinks and water. The bar is currently serving Bellaire-based Short’s Brewing Co.’s Space Rock Brew and will rotate different Michigan-made beers. A live plant wall by West Bloomfield-based Planterra accentuates the space.
“Selecting an engagement ring and getting married are among life’s most cherished milestones,” Tapper says. “We are confident that couples will find something spectacular for every budget.”
COATS FOR THE COMMUNITY
While catering to specific clientele, Tapper’s also does its part to serve those in need across Metro Detroit. The retailer, along with several community partners, is in the midst of its 26th-annual coat drive.
“We are grateful to be working with Morgan Stanley, United Shore, WDIV-TV and the West Bloomfield Public Schools to ensure that our community members stay warm this winter,” says Steven Tapper, custom designer and vice president for Tapper’s Diamonds & Fine Jewelry. “Over the past 25 years, our partners and customers have worked together to donate more than 50,000 coats to Metro Detroit families.”
Collection bins for new and gently worn coats, hats, gloves and blankets are available through Nov. 30 at Tapper’s Orchard Mall, Twelve Oaks and Somerset Collection stores as well as local Morgan Stanley and United Shore offices and West Bloomfield Public Schools. Donations benefit Orchards Children’s Services, Grace Centers of Hope, Baldwin Center and other local charities. Tapper’s is also collecting cash donations, which will be used to purchase brand new coats. For more information, call (248) 865-6313 or visit tappers.com.
Tapper’s Diamonds & Fine Jewelry at the Somerset Collection will hold a special Wedding Weekend event Nov. 10-12, featuring an even wider collection of merchandise. Customers will save 20 percent off one ring; 25 percent off two rings; and 30 percent off three rings. (800) 337-GIFT; tappers.com.
