Rabbi Shneur Silberberg

Rabbi Shneur Silberberg, 33, is associate rabbi of West Bloomfield’s Sara and Morris Tugman Bais Chabad Torah Center. He and his wife, Zeesy, direct the Hyman and Sonia Blumenstein Outreach Division of the Torah Center.

Rabbi Shneur’s time and energy are invested in Jewish education for young and old. His classes attract a broad mix of students from all backgrounds and continue to grow in popularity.

Since his return to Michigan, Rabbi Shneur, as he is known (to differentiate him from his father, Rabbi Elimelech Silberberg), has, with Zeesy, ignited a revival in Torah Center membership, especially among young families.

Rabbi Shneur by the numbers:

  • 8 years since moving to West Bloomfield
  • 25: average number of people at the Silberberg Shabbat dinner table (not counting the teen or young adult Shabbat dinners, when there can be as many as 75)
  • 5: children he is father to (under age 10)
  • 7 countries he has visited to perform Jewish outreach, including a seder in Izhevsk, Russia, and High Holiday services in Nairobi, Kenya
  • 130: number of students enrolled in recent JLI (Rohr Jewish Learning Institute) lecture series given in partnership with JCC’s Fed-Ed. He is currently teaching a series on relationships in partnership with NEXTGen Detroit.
  • 19,000 pounds of food and necessities gathered in conjunction with Yad Ezra for Texas victims of Hurricane Harvey
  • 1000s: number of people attending three annual community-wide holiday events: Sherrill Berman Shofar Factory, Chanukah Wonderland and the Barbara and Douglas Bloom Matzah Baker
  • 30: Young families who’ve recently become Torah Center members
  • 1: Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, OB”M, the Lubavitcher Rebbe whose leadership and philosophy Rabbi Shneur follows
  • ½ of the team Rabbi Shneur represents. The “better half,” who makes all that he does possible, is, he says, his wife, Zeesy.
