Haley Stevens Beats Lena Epstein in Michigan’s 11th District

NBC News called the race for  Democrat Haley Stevens in Michigan’s 11th District at 10:20 p.m.

The 11th District includes Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Commerce Township  Farmington, Northville/Northville Township, Novi/Novi Township, Troy, Walled Lake and West Bloomfield, among other communities. It is represented by David Trott, who did not seek re-election.

Stevens defeated Lena Epstein, businesswoman and former campaign co-chair for Donald Trump in Michigan. Epstein ran into controversy last week when she invited a “Jews for Jesus” rabbi to give the invocation at her political rally with Vice President Mike Pence mere days after the mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.

Although Epstein made a concession speech to the gathered supporters at her watch party, she didn’t allow the media to hear her remarks. She left the building without talking to reporters.

Stevens, 35, of Rochester Hills becomes the first of the millennial generation to represent Michigan in Congress. She previously told the Jewish News that her top three priorities were “reducing healthcare costs, growing our economy and improving public education.” She also said, “I’m interested in getting our government back to its original purpose: serving people.”
