Moe Leon and Sam Leon

Mark your calendars in heavy circles … It’s here again! … The annual mouth-watering date of Moe and Sam Leon’s annual free Thanksgiving dinner at their two restaurants… Their unbelievable yearly “thank you” to everyone in America.

The day before Thanksgiving … Wednesday, Nov. 21, from 3-8 p.m. … Complete dinner … free turkey, stuffing, homemade chicken noodle soup, mashed potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pie and soft drink … free to everyone … Not just lip service … and no action!

Moe’s On Ten … 10 Mile Road, just west of Haggerty, Novi … and Leon’s Family Dining … Michigan Avenue, between Outer Drive and Telegraph Road, Dearborn.

It’s year No.  29 of their “Thank you, America” the day before Thanksgiving itself with everything included except the kitchen sink by these two fine gentlemen … and they’d probably toss that in, too, if you want … Not this year, but maybe another time … Moe and Sam have too much food to give you in joyful thanks … as the tears of appreciation fill their faces again and again … after coming here from Syria in the 1970s to hopefully find jobs in the land they heard so much about.

Last year, at both restaurants, Moe and Sam served almost 4,000 people in the five-hour span … The absolutely no-charge fare is for everyone … man, woman or child … Makes no difference who you are … race, color, religion or whatever … needy, homeless, aged, handicapped, poor or rich … Moe and Sam don’t just say “thanks” … They show their appreciation … with tremendous gratefulness to all America by giving everybody a complete eight-course Thanksgiving dinner on them at no charge … with millions of thanks for just being you! … Available in Dearborn and Novi only from two very, very thankful gentlemen!

THE SAME RUMOR KEEPS cropping up every year about Pepino’s and it is always not for sale, says Kathy Morley, one of the owners with sister Carol Carson and Kathy’s son-in-law, Dr. Chris Hutchinson … She and Carol don’t work as many nights as they did before but are always there every day until 6 p.m. … Pepino’s will open on Sundays as of Nov. 18, 4-8 p.m. … No plans yet for brunch.

THAT WAS A beautiful article in a recent issue of the Jewish News on Judy Eder … A million words or more would have been needed to tell of her wonderful involvements in helping needy kiddies as a stalwart with the one-time Infants Service Group … She was a very valued member of this fine organization with Eleanor Riseman, Ida Rosenberg and many others … Judy celebrated her 100th birthday and Judy’s daughter, Linda Ross, her 75th … Both look great!

MAIL DEPT.From Jerry Silecchia … “I took my daughter Andrea Papadopoulos and her three sons, James, Charlie and Nicholas, to the Farmer’s Restaurant in Detroit’s Eastern Market for breakfast. It was very crowded, but we were immediately seated in a booth with a booster chair for Nicholas. The kids were very hungry and enjoyed French toast, bacon, sausage links, large pancakes and more sausages, grits, more toast and eggs. Orange juice, too. Andrea got milk for Nicholas. The eggs were so fresh you’d swear the hens were laying them in the kitchen. People commented on how well-behaved the boys were but that might have been because they were so hungry.”

THAT DEAL OF A 14-ounce prime rib complete dinner every Saturday evening at Georges Restaurant, Northwestern Hwy., just south of 14 Mile, West Bloomfield, from 5 p.m. has been continued … $14.95 includes soup or salad, vegetable and potatoes.

OLDIE BUT GOODIE … Out for a stroll while visiting Israel, the couple walk into a pet store and see a parrot with a red string on its left leg and a green string tied to its right leg. The fellow asks the store owner their significance.

“This parrot can teach you to speak Hebrew,” said the owner. “If you pull the red string, he speaks Hebrew. If you pull the green string, he speaks English.”

“And what happens if I pull both strings at the same time?” asked the fellow.

“I fall off my perch, Einstein!” squawks the parrot.

CONGRATS … To Joe and Lois Sposita on their 65th anniversary.
