The Sholem Aleichem Institute willl host Mike Smith, the Arlene and Granham Landau Archivist for the Detroit Jewish News Foundation. Smith will discuss the origins of the William Davidson Digital Archive of Jewish Detroit History, which began as an idea in the aftermath of a devastating fire at the Detroit Jewish News in 2002, through the establishment of the Detroit Jewish News Foundation and the public launch of the Archive in 2013 and the role of the University of Michigan’s Bentley Library in preserving the Archive in 2018.  Smith will also demonstrate how to use the Archive and relate a few of the best stories from the Archive.

This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in Detroit Jewish history or tracing family genealogy.
