On the heels of our very successful first square dance event, the Detroit Square Dance Society is proud to present another bigger, better, square dance/set dance extravaganza which will again take place at Corktown’s iconic Gaelic League Ballroom on Saturday, January 23rd opening with a potluck diner at 6:30 pm.
The Irish set dance portion will feature County Clare fiddler Mick Gavin with sons Michael Gavin on banjo, guitar and bouzouki and Sean
Gavin from the critically acclaimed Irish trad groups, Bua and NicGavisky on flute, whistle and Uillean pipes. The Irish dances will be taught and called by Scottish singer and dance instructor Anne McCallum.
The American square dance will be taught and called by Iowa’s Lindsey McCaw from the ever popular Corn Potato String Band. The music will be provided by celebrated fiddler and award winning multi instrumentalist Aaron Jonah Lewis, and from the stellar acoustic roots group Behind the Times, Ben Luttermoser on guitar and Rachel Pearson on bass.
